2007:

smabu

SMABU: Earth Wars was one of my first games. Technically, it's my second game after the original Bomb Panik! Nathan and I created for our fourth (third?) year dreamweaver project at Ryerson.... Anyhoo, this title screen image never saw the light of day, even though it had, in my humble opinion, way more style than the one we actually used:
Studio politics changed the monkey from a crazy maniac into a weird bomber-jacket- wearing WWI pilot thing... guhhh... You win some, you lose some, i suppose... But, if we ever get around to making SMABU 2 for some unknown reason, I swear to God those monkey gunfighters will be frothing little spazzies!

Super Mobile Attack Base Unit

wild at heart

Wild at Heart is the single best movie I have ever watched in my life. This is likely to change, but at this very second it is 100% true.

why you buggin'?

even less explanation required

This is why i get up in the morning.

milestones

Today we went out for a big studio dinner at milestones. Brad surprised us by covering the bill out of the blue. Very unexpected but definitely awesome and super classy. Capy is good fucking shit and 2007 was a crazy year. 2008 looks like it may be even crazier.

Bangai-O Script

oh man.... north and south!

That Oregon Trail remake made me think of another game I played to death on my hercules graphiX card-powered PC:

north and south
This game ruled so very hard. One part strategy, one part platformer and even a really great art style... It would be a dream to see the NES version appear on virtual console. I would download that shit is ONE FRIGGEN SECOND!

the oregon trail REMAKE

I played the christ out of the oregon trail at my grade school library. Now I shall play the christ out of this:

I wish I made this game so, so badly:

huzzaaaahhhhhhh!!!!

Just found out we're making a PSN game!!!! Me = shitting my pants in excitement.
For real, I shat a bit.

no skin man

"What the hell?", am I right?!? Yeah, I'm right. This is one of my all time favorite pieces of pixel art. It was a joke patient concept for the game Take Yer Meds! / Manic Medic for the celly. This little freakshow was created by Vic Nguyen, who is a real pro star in my books.

take yer meds!

brad neely is imporant:

Brad Neely is like Marcel Dzama, except more funny.

early rising tide art - uwe and the automaton

One of the first illustrations created for Rising Tide, a little adventure game I created for mobile. The illustration was a drawn by a good buddy of mine who I work with. This is from an early draft of the story, when it still featured automatons and Uwe with a white costume and a pointed hat. Something about this image always rocks my world. RT was later "re-branded" Puzzle Hero because apparently mobile game customers shop purely based on game titles and association.... shrug... The game is currently sitting firmly on the backburner, unfortunately. But I can't complain because it's for goooooood reason, and that reason is a DS game. VICTORY! (sort of?) Hopefully it'll see the light of day.
